#SundayReviews: "Polar"

Another old bad ass gets pulled back into the fight against his will, this time with Mads Mikkelsen. I've never seen him play a protagonist before (his face just screams antagonist I guess), but since he's a retired assassin they've split the difference. Anyways Netflix, let's go Polar ! From Google: "The world's top assassin, Duncan Vizla ( Mads Mikkelsen ), aka The Black Kaiser, is settling into retirement when his former employer marks him as a liability to the firm. Against his will, he finds himself back in the game going head-to-head with an army of younger, faster, ruthless killers who will stop at nothing to have him silenced."

To study Buddhism is to study the self. To study the self is to forget the self. To forget the self is to be enlightened by all things. To be enlightened by all things is to drop off our own body and mind, and to drop off the bodies and minds of others. No trace of enlightenment remains, and this no-trace continues endlessly. -- Dogen

#SundayReviews: "Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald"

Everyone wants their own cinematic universe, so the Wizarding World continues its expansion with Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald . I wasn't impressed by the first attempt, so let's see how this second film fares. From Google: "In an effort to thwart Grindelwald's ( Johnny Depp ) plans of raising pure-blood wizards to rule over all non-magical beings, Albus Dumbledore ( Jude Law ) enlists his former student Newt Scamander ( Eddie Redmayne ), who agrees to help, unaware of the dangers that lie ahead. Lines are drawn as love and loyalty are tested, even among the truest friends and family, in an increasingly divided wizarding world."

#SundayReviews: "The Shape of Water"

The critically acclaimed fish f*cking movie? Yep, The Shape of Water . From Google: "Elisa ( Sally Hawkins ) is a mute, isolated woman who works as a cleaning lady in a hidden, high-security government laboratory in 1962 Baltimore. Her life changes forever when she discovers the lab's classified secret -- a mysterious, scaled creature from South America that lives in a water tank. As Elisa develops a unique bond with her new friend, she soon learns that its fate and very survival lies in the hands of a hostile government agent and a marine biologist."

#SundayReviews: "Inside Out"

Disney and Pixar decided to explore the emotions controlling a little girl in Inside Out . This should be good. From Google: "Riley ( Kaitlyn Dias ) is a happy, hockey-loving 11-year-old Midwestern girl, but her world turns upside-down when she and her parents move to San Francisco. Riley's emotions -- led by Joy ( Amy Poehler ) -- try to guide her through this difficult, life-changing event. However, the stress of the move brings Sadness ( Phyllis Smith ) to the forefront. When Joy and Sadness are inadvertently swept into the far reaches of Riley's mind, the only emotions left in Headquarters are Anger ( Lewis Black ), Fear ( Bill Hader ) and Disgust ( Mindy Kaling )."

#SundayReviews: "Us"

Jordan Peele decided to follow up the very good Get Out , with Us . Sure, why not. From Google: "Accompanied by her husband, son and daughter, Adelaide Wilson ( Lupita Nyong'o ) returns to the beachfront home where she grew up as a child. Haunted by a traumatic experience from the past, Adelaide grows increasingly concerned that something bad is going to happen. Her worst fears soon become a reality when four masked strangers descend upon the house, forcing the Wilsons ( Winston Duke , Shahadi Wright Joseph , & Evan Alex ) into a fight for survival. When the masks come off, the family is horrified to learn that each attacker takes the appearance of one of them."
