Nearing the End of 2000 & Gr8...

Next up is 2000 & Fine! There were a number of posts I wanted to share with you Universe, before this year ended, but I'm not going to try and cram 10 posts into one day. Instead I'll list my Top 10 Moments of this year, and save the other goodies for next year! (I'm so smart.) And now in the order that I recall them, the Top 10 Moments of 2000 & Gr8 (2008 to you slow ones out there): I survived my brush with death!! I am seriously happy to still be alive. I have learned an important lesson on controlling your drinking... particularly when boats are involved. Shame may be the best teacher. Barack Obama , the 44th president of the United States of America! Watching the New York Giants upset the New England Patriots in the NFL's Superbowl XLII -- in front of a house FULL of Patsies fans. Usain "Lightning" Bolt obliterating World records in the 100m, 200m, and 4x100m at the Beijing Olympics. Sarah Palin . WTF!? Bernard Madoff or the US Subprime Mortga

What We Have Here Is A Failure To Communicate

Finally something grabbed my attention enough to break my Obama Nomination hangover! Check this screen capture from my AAdvantage eSummary email for December 2008... I leave the rest to your smutty minds. - QBF
"Today we begin in earnest the work of making sure that the world we leave our children is just a little bit better than the one we inhabit today." -- President-Elect Barack Obama

The 44th President of the United States of America

The next President of the United States In a vote of historic proportions yesterday, Senator Barack Obama became President-Elect of the United States of America with a 52% majority in the popular vote, and more than 349 electoral votes. Over two years of campaigning was resolved with a record voter turnout, as the Republican candidate John McCain conceded graciously at 11:20 pm eastern last night. With such a high level of interest and attention, there have been millions of words written and photographs taken of the candidates over the past year. Here is a collection of some of the best photos of President-Elect Barack Obama over the past several months. Click this LINK to check out the photos on the Boston.com website.

YES. WE. DID!!

What an exciting & historic presidential election night! The first one I've ever paid close attention to in fact. It started out as a close contest (or so it seemed), and then swiftly devolved into an out-an-out absolute DRUBBING of the McCain/Palin presidential ticket by Obama/Biden. I was in shock when I got the pronouncement while watching Comedy Central's coverage that Obama had won. I kept waiting for the punchline for a few seconds, then quickly switched to CNN to see if they were pulling my leg. Now, it's not like I never expected Barack to win, but I was half expecting some drawn-out process -- perhaps even having to wait for the last state's results before he was declared the winner... Instead Barack Obama, his staff, and NUMEROUS campaign supporters delivered an impressive 364-163 electoral vote landslide victory. In the popular vote the winning margin was approximately 7.97 million. I am so happy that one of the most important nations on this planet fina

Best Magazine Ads Ever!!

These ads for Ché Men's Magazine speak for themselves far better than I ever could ( but that doesn't mean I won't try!): That was a *proper* desk calendar! Speechless... Milk certainly does a body good! Merging videogames with a hot chick -- BRILLIANT!! This would be the Holy Grail, if only this women's magazine actually existed... The *only* acceptable way to find your wife is cheating on you.

Analogy Time!

Sometimes I find really good forwards in my Inbox each morning. When they're this good, I feel as if I should share my gift with the world (particularly the USA).

History Is Almost Made!!

I think I'll add a countdown timer for November 4th, in fact I wish I were a US citizen just so I could vote for Barack!! I would say that my expectation level is now "Cautiously Optimistic". Why? Obama's leading in the polls, McCain is getting increasingly desperate in his attempts to catch up, and (most tellingly) the McCain people and Palin people are fighting! YES. WE. CAN! [UPDATE: Apparently the countdown timer is broken, so in this instance: No I Can't. ;-p ]

Poker (Is) For Dummies!

I'm joking with the title of course. You need to understand probabilities and be a student of human reactions to be an exceptional poker player, and perhaps I'll try it out someday when I become more observant. A few of my friends seem to regularly donate their money to others on a weekly basis at organised games, but maybe one day they will compete in the World Series of Poker -- and inexplicably be broadcast on ESPN! There are numerous variants of poker played, but the winning hands remain the same (I believe) and are shown below in descending order:

Usain Bolt Takes Over NY Subway

These advertisements by Puma were seen in the New York City subway system. Big up Usain to di werl!! Just so you remember, the " Lightning Bolt " struck an unprecedented three times at the Beijing Olympics 2008 , getting gold (and World Records) in the 100m, 200m, and 4x100m relay !

Great Poetry: When Doves Cry

Now this is the beginning lyrics of my favourite Prince song, "When Doves Cry". It's easy to get caught up in this song without really noticing the powerful lyrics. One day I'll be as good (I hope). Prince - When Doves Cry Dig if u will the picture Of u and I engaged in a kiss The sweat of your body covers me Can u my darling Can u picture this? Dream if u can a courtyard An ocean of violets in bloom Animals strike curious poses They feel the heat The heat between me and u

Wear Sunscreen (Shout out to 1999!!)

The following came out the same year I graduated college, and has always held a special place for me... - QBF Baz Luhramm – Everybody’s Free (To Wear Sunscreen) Ladies and Gentlemen of the class of ’99 If I could offer you only one tip for the future, sunscreen would be it. The long term benefits of sunscreen have been proved by scientists whereas the rest of my advice has no basis more reliable than my own meandering experience… I will dispense this advice now. Enjoy the power and beauty of your youth; oh nevermind; you will not understand the power and beauty of your youth until they have faded. But trust me, in 20 years you’ll look back at photos of yourself and recall in a way you can’t grasp now how much possibility lay before you and how fabulous you really looked… You’re not as fat as you imagine. Don’t worry about the future; or worry, but know that worrying is as effective as trying to solve an algebra equation by chewing bubblegum. The real troubles in your life are apt to be

Movie Review: "Mama Mia!"

Shocking I know that I watched " Mama Mia! " this summer, it wasn't my idea of course, and was the payment necessary for getting to watch what I really wanted to see: " The Dark Knight ". Now I fully expected to experience 90 minutes of torture, but the flick was surprisingly (mostly) pain-free. The story was flimsy, and the dance routines were kind of stiff, but somehow the Greek setting and the attractive cast (including extras) made it semi-enjoyable. Of course, I have to mention that the writer seemed to have run out of steam when she decided to inexplicably turn one of the potential-fathers into a homosexual -- which started from an off-the-cuff remark from another character -- as she apparently didn't create any other female character for him to hook up with. It certainly made no sense. All in all I'd rate it as a CABLE viewing. - QBF
