Another year, another live action remake of a Disney animated movie. What will they do once they've tapped them all? Sequels I'm sure!
Anyways, this time it's Mulan, except released on the small screen of Disney+ because of you know, the Pandemic.
From Google:
"To save her ailing father from serving in the Imperial Army, a fearless young woman (Yifei Liu) disguises herself as a man to battle northern invaders in China."
Oh boy, this movie has so many problems, before we get to the actual film.
They failed at pandering to the Chinese audience.
They filmed in an area where there are Uighur Muslim concentration camps, and thanked the government for it.
Then the heroine turns out to be a chi superhero from she's a small kid, thus negating the hero's journey into more of a coming out party. Hell, even Superman had growing pains!
Maybe that's just nitpicking from comparing it to the Disney animated classic, but I don't think so...
Are there any positives? The Cinematography is topnotch.
BEAUTIFUL AND WATCHABLE BUT DISAPPOINTING.

PS: I'm sorry for the people who shelled out to sign up for Disney+ and then forked over an additional USD $30 to watch this...
