Set in the far future, After Earth is Will Smith's attempt to simultaneously turn his son Jaden Smith into an action movie star, and to (even more audaciously) resurrect the career of one M. Night Shyamalan.
I'm not sure which is a more daunting prospect... That's not true, only one of them is mentioned NOWHERE in the promotional material...
So I don't know if knowing this was a Shyamalan film and thus expecting utter crap, allowed me to enjoy this film more than I had any right to -- or if it really wasn't that bad a movie.
Let me clear, Jaden is a terrible actor, and a better protagonist would have made a better film.
Let me also be clear, the premise for the alien enemy is all kinds of ridiculous (but slightly cool).
This all ended up making it an AVERAGE WATCH.
It did have an awesome quote from Will Smith's character though:
"Fear is not real. The only place that fear can exist is in our thoughts of the future. It is a product of our imagination, causing us to fear things that do not at present and may not ever exist. That is near insanity Kitai. Do not misunderstand me, danger is very real, but fear is a choice. We are all telling ourselves a story and that day mine changed."
