How Come?: "Food Porn"

How Come some people really think that others are interested (even a little bit) in what they're eating right now?

I only became aware of this semi-recently when some of my friends started subjecting me to this "food porn" on Facebook, and then when I joined Instagram it was there as well (thankfully, Google+ seems free from infection so far).

Now, assuming you actually slaved away in a kitchen cooking/baking this culinary creation, then by all means share your passion with the world. (No, a sandwich and any other meal that took you less than an hour to cook does not qualify!)

But what's with the obsession of "showing off" some food you merely ordered at a restaurant?

Do they seek congratulations on their choice?

What's next, posting photos of their drinks?
