You Oughta Know: Men Are Like Arithmetic, Women Are Like Advanced Calculus

I came across this hilarious (yet very serious) quote the other day: "If a woman says she's wrong, is she still wrong?" The consensus from my Facebook compatriots seemed to be that it was a trick! Are women always right? Of course not, no one is perfect (sorry ladies), but the quote did make me wonder about the differences in how men and women communicate...

Throwback Tuesday

" Pass the Dutchie " was a very popular song in my preparatory school days by Musical Youth . At the time I had no idea what the song meant, and sang along quite enthusiastically whenever it came on the radio, but later I figured it had something to do with ganja smoking. Turns out I was right! It was a cover of another song by the Mighty Diamonds entitled "Pass the Koutchie" (koutchie being a ganja pipe). So keep passing that dutchie and enjoy! - QBF

Today's treat was recommended by one of my readers, and is an excellent find indeed: Brianna Frost ! Her full name is Brianna Frost Hogan , and she is of a mixed heritage (African American, German, & Native American) -- she'd fit right in in Jamaica don't you think? Site Update News!: Jamaica Blog Awards 2010 Results

I think the above photo illustrates how my night at the  Jamaica Blog Awards 2010 went on Sunday :-) . It was a great night for me personally (winning Best Entertainment Blog and Readers' Choice Award), and even though the show started late, it was well organised and very entertaining.

Site Update: Name Changed!

So the name of my blog is going to be slightly tweaked (edited) from "The Quick Brown Fox Jumped Over The Lazy Dog" to "The Quick Brown Fox Jumps Over The Lazy Dog". Why may you ask? The answer is quite simple -- I made a minor gaffe when naming this site! The explanation can be found here on Wikipedia , which gives you the background of the phrase which was part of my inspiration. I hope you like the new title, but if not... sucks to be you! - QBF ;-)

You Oughta Know: "Facts" & "The Truth" Just Aren't What They Used To Be

Okay, so I just read this article on The New Yorker's site " The Decline Effect and the Scientific Method ", and it had some pretty shocking results to me. Why shocking you may ask? According to Ioannidis, the main problem is that too many researchers engage in what he calls “significance chasing,” or finding ways to interpret the data so that it passes the statistical test of significance—the ninety-five-per-cent boundary invented by Ronald Fisher. “The scientists are so eager to pass this magical test that they start playing around with the numbers, trying to find anything that seems worthy,” Ioannidis says. In recent years, Ioannidis has become increasingly blunt about the pervasiveness of the problem. One of his most cited papers has a deliberately provocative title: “Why Most Published Research Findings Are False.”

Throwback Tuesday

Kicking off this new weekly series of "Throwback Tuesday" (which will feature good and timeless music), is the famous reggae band Inner Circle  with one of their most popular hits: Sweat (A La La La La Long). - QBF
